MOSSBELLY (2023)
What does moss look like when it dances? Where can bodies take place if not in our human flesh and bones? And on what plane is the bodily happening? At the centre of the immersive dance piece MOSSBELLY is plant trituration. This practice allows one to enter into a shared space of resonance and dialogue with a particular plant by triturating it for several hours. Having emerged from Angela ’s deep engagement with moss over the course of several years, MOSSBELLY creates a language of movement that is entirely given, inspired and infused by moss. The piece marks a new chapter in her artistic work. For the first time, the artist has choreographed a group of dancers and is approaching plant entities with specific methods of encounter. Angela Schubot wants to honour these new beginnings by changing her artist name, taking on the name of her long-forgotten grandfather who was made aware to her by plants: Vitovec.
